New Jersey concealed carry

What is CCARE?

CCARE stands for Civilian Carry Assessment and Range Evaluation. It is the required live-fire qualification for New Jersey’s Permit to Carry a Handgun, commonly called a concealed carry permit.

Your training with a certified firearms instructor covers safe handgun handling, range qualification, and required use-of-force education. After successful completion, your instructor provides a completed S.P. 182 certification and a copy of the instructor’s certification to submit with your permit application.

Two-year training windowFor an initial permit application, your qualifying training must have been completed within the two years before you apply. This window is measured from your date of completion.

Before your first session

Questions are welcome

Can I book if I’ve never shot before?

Yes. Choose Beginner Firearms Training or Help Me Choose. We’ll discuss your experience and what you need before arranging your session.

Is my appointment confirmed when I send the form?

Sending the form starts the scheduling process. Your appointment is confirmed after Gregory contacts you and you agree on the date, time, location, and session details.

Where does live-fire training take place?

Live-fire sessions take place at an approved South Jersey range. The exact location is confirmed before your appointment. Stock photographs illustrate the type of training environment and do not identify an affiliated academy range.

Should I bring a firearm or other equipment?

For CCARE qualifications, bring the items on our CCARE checklist. For other sessions, we’ll confirm equipment and preparation details with you before your appointment. Ask about your needs in the notes field when you submit your request.

Can I request NJ carry training or a qualification?

Yes. Select NJ Carry / CCARE Qualification. Tell us whether you need preparation, qualification, or use-of-force education so Gregory can discuss the appropriate session with you.

How long can I use my CCARE training for an application?

For an initial application, the training window is two years from successful completion. Eligible renewal applicants may reuse qualifying training completed within the last two years if they apply before their existing permit expires. Your instructor’s completion documents are uploaded with your application. Check the NJSP instructions for your application.

How much does training cost?

Pricing depends on the session. Gregory will confirm the price with you before the appointment is agreed.

Is the academy insured?

Instructor liability coverage is being finalized. Active coverage will be confirmed before the academy is described as insured.
